Voltron Data Accelerates Real-Time Analytics with Acquisition of Claypot AI

Voltron Data, a leading company specializing in modular and composable data analytics systems, has recently acquired Claypot AI, a startup based in San Francisco, California, focusing on real-time AI platforms. While the financial details of the deal remain undisclosed, this strategic move positions Voltron Data to unlock the power of the largest datasets for AI applications.

Voltron Data, led by CEO Josh Patterson, is known for its commitment to designing and building composable data systems tailored for enterprises and government agencies. The acquisition of Claypot AI, founded in 2022 by CEO Chip Huyen and Zhenzhong Xu, marks a significant milestone in Voltron Data’s mission to accelerate real-time analytics and enhance MLOps capabilities.

Voltron Data currently processes substantial batch workloads on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) and plans to integrate Claypot AI’s real-time capabilities onto GPUs. This integration aims to address the challenges faced by organizations engaged in AI, particularly the limitations imposed by data preprocessing on Central Processing Units (CPUs).

Last month, Voltron Data unveiled Theseus, an accelerator-native distributed query engine designed to harness the potential of GPUs and full-system hardware accelerators. Theseus facilitates both data preprocessing and AI/ML workloads on GPUs, providing a unified infrastructure for data analytics and AI pipelines. This innovation not only mitigates the risk of vendor lock-in but also contributes to lower energy consumption and a reduced carbon footprint.

Commenting on the acquisition, Josh Patterson expressed his excitement, stating, “I couldn’t be more excited to bring on Chip Huyen, Zhenzhong Xu, and the entire Claypot AI team. Together we’re going to be able to accelerate our real-time and MLOps product roadmap with state-of-the-art features for our customers.”

Chip Huyen, co-founder and CEO of Claypot AI, emphasized the significance of data strategies in AI initiatives, stating, “AI strategies have to start from data strategies. I am thrilled about this new chapter with Voltron Data and the incredible opportunities it presents. We are going to continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in real-time, feature engineering, and MLOps for enterprises.”

With the addition of Claypot AI’s expertise and technology, Voltron Data is poised to enhance its capabilities in real-time analytics, feature engineering, and MLOps. This acquisition aligns with Voltron Data’s commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions for enterprises and government agencies dealing with extensive datasets.
