London-based startup Sky Engine AI has successfully raised $7 million in a Series A funding round, signaling a pivotal moment in the development of its synthetic data cloud platform. This platform, designed to assist data scientists and engineers in computer vision projects, has garnered significant attention and support from prominent investors.
Cogito Capital Partners spearheaded the funding round, joined by new investors Edge VC and Taiwania Capital, along with existing backers Movens Capital, High-Tech Gründerfonds (HTGF), and renowned entrepreneur Charles Morgan.
Sky Engine AI, founded in 2018 by Dr. Bartek Wlodarczyk and Jakub Pietrzak, focuses on training AI computer vision algorithms through generative simulation and deep learning. The infusion of $7 million in funds is earmarked for accelerating the startup’s growth and further aiding data scientists, machine learning experts, and software engineers engaged in computer vision projects.
The innovative synthetic data cloud platform addresses a critical challenge in the AI industry, significantly reducing the traditionally time-consuming and expensive processes involved in training and validating AI models. By leveraging synthetic data – artificially created data that mirrors real-world characteristics without directly depicting them – Sky Engine AI enhances the efficiency and accuracy of AI models across various applications.
Applications span a wide range, from AI Drones and UAV navigation to crowd analytics, military simulation, and training. Companies like Renault, Scania, Ericsson, Samsung, and Syngenta have already experienced the benefits of using Sky Engine AI’s synthetic data to expedite their time-to-market with enhanced precision.
Over the past 18 months, Sky Engine AI has witnessed remarkable growth, with revenues tripling and the team expanding to over 40 members. The startup has solidified partnerships with industry giants Nvidia and Microsoft, emphasizing the platform’s relevance and impact in the AI landscape.
Dr. Bartek Wlodarczyk, CEO and Founder of Sky Engine AI, expressed gratitude for the support from investors, stating, “The pedigree of our investors speaks for itself: their experiences in scaling businesses that focus on vision AI will be indispensable at a time where similarly synthetic data is bringing so much immediate value in the real world.”
As Sky Engine AI continues on its mission to augment deep learning teams and reduce algorithmic biases, the Series A funding marks a crucial milestone, positioning the startup for further innovation and contributions to the advancement of ethical and efficient AI practices.
